A failed photo day — experimentation ended in ruined photos but it I am wiser now:
Last week of May 2021
Main Goal: Test the use of Canon Auto light Optimizer. The plan was to have the “Auto Lighting Optimiser” on maximum and take both Jpgs and raw. I have read the Raw photos will not have the effect applied with the exception being if you use Canon Raw processor DP professional which will auto apply the effect on top of the raw.
Mistakes of the day:
- First and last mistake: saving files as super small jps. No Raw and super low quality photos to boot.
- Back button focus- kept pressing the wrong bottom to focus. For getting I had to do each and every time. It was continuous on some random setting but I am not sure how to duplicate that. AI servo perhaps?
- EV was mixed. Used to much of it or too little but it did make a big difference for the hard to focus areas in the dark. Dispute many false starts started to get better using the magic Av button.
- Had light optimizer on maximum and it may have done something but the only way to confirm was to have the Raw working and compare the two files and as said forgot to have the raw activated.

This duck was bit of luck. He moved into photo range and allowed me to tower over him allowing for some good practice with back focus. Note how his face reflects in his one duck bill. Very cool.
Lunch time. Not the lunch time this Chipmunk expected. The bird however was very happy.
